CapTrail

Terms of use

Version of 2 October 2026

This text is a translation of the original French version. In the event of any discrepancy, the French version prevails.

1. Purpose and scope

CapTrail helps you prepare, record and follow trail motorcycle routes. The service may offer route calculation, maps, navigation directions, alerts relating to certain zones, and the import and export of GPX files. The features available may vary depending on the version, the country, the connection and the device used. CapTrail is neither an authorisation to ride nor an official source on the legal status of a track.

2. Access to the service

Access to some features requires an account and, depending on the offer, a subscription. The terms of the trial, price, payment, renewal, cancellation and consumer rights are governed by the terms of sale. If explicit acceptance of these terms of use is provided for at sign-up or on first use, how it actually works must be checked in the app and on the web.

3. Maps, routes and zones

Maps and geographical information come from public data or from third-party providers. They may be incomplete, out of date or wrong. A calculated route or a zone colour code does not guarantee that all tracks are open to motor vehicles, passable or safe. Some bans, temporary restrictions or local situations may not be shown. Users check the signs, the conditions on the ground and the applicable rules before riding.

4. 600 km calculation limit

When the distance between two points of a route exceeds 600 km, the calculation does not route around protected areas on that segment. To avoid these areas, users split their journey into shorter stages. According to the information provided by the developer, military zones remain excluded from the calculation. This rule must be consistent with the warnings shown in the editor and in navigation.

5. Riding and safety

Users must stay attentive to the road and their surroundings, comply with the highway code, signs and local restrictions, and only use their phone in conditions compatible with safe riding. Voice directions, GPS and rerouting never replace their own judgement of the actual situation. It is up to them to adapt their route to the weather, the terrain, their machine and their abilities.

6. Connection, geolocation and availability

The service depends in particular on GPS, the device, the network and map providers. Some features may be disrupted or unavailable. Maps are not offered for offline download; areas already viewed may nevertheless remain temporarily in memory, depending on how the phone works. Permanent availability and instant positioning accuracy are not guaranteed.

7. GPX files and user content

Users make sure that they hold the necessary rights to the files and content they import or share, and that these do not infringe the rights of others. An imported or shared GPX file proves neither that a route is legally open nor that it is safe. The publisher may remove content that is manifestly unlawful or incompatible with these terms of use, in compliance with the applicable rules and, where possible, with appropriate information to the user.

8. Liability

The publisher uses reasonable means to provide the service in accordance with its description. Information and route suggestions remain indicative. The publisher’s liability is assessed in accordance with the applicable law, taking into account in particular its own obligations and the user’s conduct. Nothing in these terms of use deprives consumers of the rights granted to them by law.

9. Suspension, changes and amendments

In the event of unlawful use, of a breach of the security of the service or of a serious breach of these terms of use, the publisher may take proportionate action, in particular limiting or suspending access. It informs the user of the reason and of the ways to contact it, insofar as the situation and the law allow. Significant changes to the service or to these terms of use are brought to users’ attention in an appropriate manner; the statutory rights attached to the subscription remain reserved.

10. Governing law and complaints

These terms of use are governed by French law, without depriving consumers of the mandatory protections they enjoy in their country of residence where these apply. A complaint may be sent to the publisher through the channel indicated in the legal notice. Remedies and the competent courts are determined by the applicable rules. Information on consumer mediation is to be provided in the appropriate contractual documents.
